‘She could be a 1,000 Guineas hope’ – Calendar Girl earns Classic trial date after Oh So Sharp success

Calendar Girl sparked 1,000 Guineas dreams for owners Kennet Valley by winning the Group 3 Oh So Sharp Stakes for Owen Burrows.

The well-backed favourite took the lead close home from long-time trailblazer Mubasimah, who tried to repeat the successful tactics from her winning debut at the track a fortnight earlier. Calendar Girl was stepping up in class and trip after winning a sales race at Doncaster on her previous start and prevailed by a neck under Callum Rodriguez.

Burrows said: “Callum said she wasn’t doing a whole lot when she hit the front but she’ll be better over a mile. Now she’s had a feel of the track, she could be a 1,000 Guineas hope.” Burrows said: “Let’s see how it goes over winter but she could go for a trial, whether it’s here or just up the road from us at Newbury.”
