Bright future assured as Streak Lightning wins impressively on debut
Another prospective star emerged for Kennet Valley Thoroughbreds on Wednesday as three-year-old Streak Lightning made a bright start to his career by winning the second division of the 1m½f maiden at Wolverhampton.
Unraced at two, the son of Night Of Thunder was sent to the lead by PJ McDonald and quickened effortlessly clear in the home straight to win by four-and-a-half lengths.
The rider was impressed and said: “It felt like there’s plenty of improvement and he’s a nice horse going forward. I think he could step up but he doesn’t lack speed so I don’t think there’s any need to go tampering with anything yet. “There was confidence behind this horse coming into today, the lads liked him at home so I’d be 100 per cent sure there’s a plan for him.”
The patience of his owners and trainer – Mark Johnston has been rewarded and we are hoping that he can follow in the footsteps of Persian Moon, who was so successful for the same connections. Streak Lightning was purchased from Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale for 62,000gns.
